   Proposal Description:
   Since February 2008, the UDS Clinical Dementia Rating Scale (CDR) has included 2 additional scales, one for behavior-comportment-personality and another for language. The former was developed by Knopman et al (Brain 2008) and the latter by Weintraub and colleagues (unpublished data).  In those initial reports, data  are presented from a relatively small group of subjects, most with clinical diagnoses of either behavior variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) or one of the primary progressive aphasias (PPA).  With the introduction of the two scales into the UDS CDR, it is now possible to examine the performance characteristics of these scales in a much larger, diagnostically diverse group of subjects. We propose a series of descriptive and correlative studies to characterize these two scales. The goals of these analyses is to understand better the psychometric properties of the two scales, and to attempt to determine if they add unique value in the assessment of patients with the spectrum of mild cognitive impairment and dementia.
